Writing World: Events

I'm a busy lady this week. Book club on Monday, YA event on Saturday, and editing all days in between...
Thanks to my fellow author/friend Holly Kammier (Could Have Been Holly Wood) I got the chance to meet the wonderful ladies of her book club. We had fun, snacked on yummy food, and talked books/T.V. crushes/life. I love me a little girl time :)

On Saturday (June 23rd) I'll be at Mysterious Galaxy Bookstore in San Diego with a bunch of other awesome YA authors. I'm so excited and hope to see you there!! Here are the details:

For many of us, summertime is a celebration of reading opportunities beyond assigned curriculum.
MGSD’s Elizabeth hosts our 2012 Summer Reading Recommendations for Teens, with guest authors: Laurie Stolarz, Christine Fonseca, Tera Lynn Childs, Tracy Deebs, and Jessica Therrien.
Deadly Little Voices, Laurie’s latest Touch novel, chronicles Camelia’s efforts to devote herself to art school and use her gift of psychometry to help locate a missing girl.
Lacrimosa, the first novel in Southern CA author Christine’s YA Gothic series, The Requiem Series, examines the role of redemption and sacrifice.
Tara takes on several creatures of mythology, exploring Medusa’s descendants in Sweet Venom, and merfolk in Forgive My Fins.
And mermaids are also the focus of Tracy’s second installment in her tales of Tempest Maguire, as Tempest is torn between forces of land and sea in Tempest Unleashed.

SDSU graduate and author Jessica’s debut, Oppression, is book one of her YA paranormal romance/adventure series, Children of the Gods.

High school junior Camelia's psychometric powers of touch seem to be changing when she starts to hear voices saying malicious things to her, and even focusing on her beloved pottery does not help, especially after her psychic, suicidal aunt comes to stay after being released from the hospital.

It's been three thousand years since the fall of Azzaziel and the rebirth of evil; three thousand years since the Sentinal Order, an elite group of warrior angels, returned to Celestium. Their job-rid Earth of the dark creatures, the UnHoly. And with luck, end Azza's rule. As if casting out demons isn't hard enough, five-hundred-year-old Nesy has to masquerade as a teenage girl to do it. Nesy is the best of the Sentinals. She never makes mistakes, never hesitates, never gets emotionally involved. Until she meets Aydan. He is evil incarnate; a fallen angel that feeds off the souls of others. Everything Nesy is supposed to hate. But she can't, because he's also the love of her former life as a human girl-a life that ended too soon, tying her to emotions she was never supposed to feel. Now Nesy must choose between doing her duty-damning Aydan to the fiery depths of hell-or saving him, and condemning herself. And her choice may cost her, and Celestium, far more than anyone realizes. How much will she sacrifice for love?

Elyse knows what it means to keep a secret. She's been keeping secrets her whole life. Two, actually. First, that she ages five times slower than average people, so that while she looks eighteen years old, she's closer to eighty. Second, that her blood has a mysterious power to heal. For Elyse, these things don't make her special. They make life dangerous. After the death of her parents, she's been careful to keep her secret as closely guarded as possible. Now, only one other person in the world knows about her age and ability. Or so she thinks. Elyse is not the only one keeping secrets. There are others like her all over the world, descendants of the very people the Greeks considered gods. She is one of them, and they have been waiting for her for a long time. Some are waiting for her to put an end to centuries of traditions that have oppressed their people under the guise of safeguarding them. Others are determined to keep her from doing just that. But for Elyse, the game is just beginning - and she's not entirely willing to play by their rules.

Grace just moved to San Francisco and is excited to start over at a new school. The change is full of fresh possibilities, but it’s also a tiny bit scary. It gets scarier when a minotaur walks in the door. And even more shocking when a girl who looks just like her shows up to fight the monster. Gretchen is tired of monsters pulling her out into the wee hours, especially on a school night, but what can she do? Sending the minotaur back to his bleak home is just another notch on her combat belt. She never expected to run into this girl who could be her double, though. Greer has her life pretty well put together, thank you very much. But that all tilts sideways when two girls who look eerily like her appear on her doorstep and claim they’re triplets, supernatural descendants of some hideous creature from Greek myth, destined to spend their lives hunting monsters. These three teenage descendants of Medusa, the once-beautiful Gorgon maligned in myth, must reunite and embrace their fates in this unique paranormal world where monsters lurk in plain sight.

Tempest Maguire is happy with her decision to embrace her mermaid nature and live among her mother’s clan within the ocean’s depths. Even though training to one day ascend the throne for the aging mermaid queen is rigorous, she finds refuge in the arms of Kona, the selkie who first opened her up to her mermaid side. But when word comes that one of her brothers has been gravely injured on land, Tempest immediately rushes to his side—which also brings her back to her old flame, Mark. And in her absence, a deadly battle begins raging at the hands of Tempest’s old nemesis, the sea witch Tiamat. As the dangerous war erupts, Tempest’s two loves—Kona and Mark, sea and land—will collide for the first time, both to protect her and to force her to choose.
