The Buzz: YA Movies

The Monday after Thanksgiving…duhn duhn duhn. Back to work, back to eating healthy, back to working out, back to the real world. After spending nearly every moment in my comfy cozies, I’m having trouble adjusting back to normal people clothes. My pants are definitely a bit more snug than I remember, but it was SO worth it. Practicing being lazy worked out as planned. I was Queen of the pajama rats, running the world from my tiny pink laptop.

I did, however, manage to brave the crazies on Black Friday. Not for shopping (I wasn’t about to get pepper sprayed for a two-dollar toaster). Why else would I risk being mauled by insane zombie shoppers, you ask? Um, hello…Breaking Dawn!

Maybe I was too excited about it. I don’t know. I was just sort of disappointed. I thought it was slow, kind of cheesy, and awkward. The funny thing is, my husband was the one sucked in. Although…I still have the urge to see it again, like it might be better the second time (which it might be). I think my expectations were somewhere out of this galaxy. I need a do-over.

So for all of you who haven’t seen it, here’s a little teaser. Don’t forget to tell me your thoughts on the movie.

AND (I know I’m a little late in posting this) for everyone who has yet to see the Hunger Games Movie trailer, TAH DAH!

How was your holiday? Any crazy shopper stories? Did you like Breaking Dawn?

  1. Aloha Jessica,

With two little ones that can implode a store all by themselves, we decided to stay in, so no crazy shopping stories here.

I did, however, about fall off my chair reading the stuff that went on.... Is it safe to enter Wal-Mart's electronic section yet?

P.S. Hmmm, could there be another reason why your "pants are a little snug" Is there an upcoming family announcement, perhaps :)

  2. I haven't seen Breaking Dawn, I might wait until it's out on video.. I enjoyed the previous movies, but now I have this fear that I will be so disappointed and then just pissed at this one.. I'm soover Patterson and what's her jname, they really do such a terrible acting job.. I think they have ruined it for me... sigh!

BUT Hunger Games??? oh man, I cant' wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Seriously, the best part of going to Breaking Dawn was seeing the Hunger Games trailer on a really big screen :) I'm with you on the awkward and cheesy reaction. The honeymoon made me feel a little on the prudish side along with making me a little angry. For somebody who hasn't read the books or just isn't into it, this movie felt looooonnng and like it didn't have much of a point (for my husband). I'd have to see it again to really determine how I feel about it, but that won't be until it comes out on video.

  5. I have no thoughts on this movie. Each to their own, but it's not in my wheelhouse. Maybe one day I'll be drunk enough to watch them, but not until after the kids move out. So...16 years?

  6. I realize my comment could be snarky about Twilight. The exact opposite. I wish I could write something that would sell millions of copies and a inspire a movie franchise. I just prefer my vampires more...not R Patz.

  7. I can empathize with you because I didn't LOVE it. I saw Twilight multiple times, the next two movies more than once...but I'm okay with only seeing this one once. The funny thing is I've heard rave reviews over this one. It's like people think it redeemed the entire series. huh.

  8. A few of us went to see Breaking Dawn, and we had a good laugh while at the theater. It's just so cheesy. But, there were a few parts they did really well, and it was a fun girls night out. And as someone else mentioned, the HG trailer on the big screen totally made it worth it!

  9. I think I'm going to see BD with my Mother-in-Law this weekend and The Hunger Games trailer looks awesome.

  10. Thanks for the follow, Jessica!
I've been Black Friday shopping before, but I'm not that into it, so I went in the afternoon after the crazies had released their craze. I'm not into Twilight either. I read the 1st 200 pages of the 1st book and stopped when Edward couldn't resist Bella's scent. =P

  11. I was disappointed, too, but I had similarly high expectations. I thought too much was left out. I can't imagine watching that movie without having read the book. So much was missing and essential (Rosalie's part, Jacob breaking from pack, Leah's role, etc.

And I sure was glad I didn't take my preteen to see it, even though she wasn't happy with me. The birth scene (and quite frankly honeymoon scenes) were too much for an 11 year old.
